It is a native red variety from Tamilnadu. This name comes from the season “kuruvai” in which the crop gets harvested. The colour is dark brown and has a coarse texture. This paddy is said to have survived the tsunami which happened in 2004 in the district of Nagapattinam. All traditional rice varieties are drought and flood-resistant.
